Long-life emergency food compared: buckets, tins and rations (UK)
Long-life food buckets cost far more than tins you already eat. Here is what we found, and the one cost per day we could work out.
About these links: they are plain links to ordinary retailer pages. We may earn from some links in future; we don't now. If that changes, links will be marked * and this note will say "Ad". Cost per day
A day here means 2,000 kcal. We could only work this out where the calories are stated: the Seven Oceans ration is 2,500 kcal for £9.79, so about £7.83 for 2,000 kcal (our sum). We didn't have calorie totals for the other products, so we haven't guessed them. Ask the seller for total calories before you compare.
Who it's for
Most homes: 3 days of tins and dried food you already eat. It's cheaper, and you'll rotate it. See our emergency food list.
Long-life buckets: people with no space to rotate food, or who want a store for weeks. The 25-year shelf life is the maker's claim.
Ration bars: go bags and the car: no cooking, long shelf life.
How we judged
Price, what's inside and whether we could compare cost per day. No taste tests.
No star ratings: we haven't collected reviews, and we don't show anyone else's. No product can promise to keep you safe.
