Build your Be Ready kit

Every item on the GOV.UK Be Ready emergency kit checklist, with what to look for. Tick what you already have — most homes have more than half. Then add an item or two on normal shopping trips. No need to buy it all at once.

Water	Bottled water: 3 litres per person per day, for 3 days Water you already buy, or sealed food-grade containers, dated.	Guide
Food	Non-perishable food that needs no fridge or cooking Tins you normally eat, plus a manual tin opener.	Guide
Light	Torch and spare batteries A head torch leaves both hands free. Avoid candles.	Guide
Warmth	Blankets, sleeping bags and warm clothes What you already own, kept where you can find it in the dark.	Guide
Radio	FM radio, battery or wind-up More than one way to power it. FM (and DAB+) — long wave Radio 4 closed in June 2026.	Guide
Phone power	A charged power bank Enough to recharge your phone at least twice. Keep it topped up.	Guide
Money	Cash (coins and notes) and cards Card machines can stop in a power cut.	Guide
Documents	Copies of IDs, important numbers, medicine details On paper, because phones go flat.	Guide
First aid	First aid kit and essential medicines Check a ready-made kit against our first aid kit list.	Guide
Baby	Ready-to-feed formula, nappies and wipes Only if you need them.	Guide
Pets	Pet food and bottled water Plus medicines and a carrier.	Guide
Hygiene	Hand sanitiser, wet wipes, hygiene products Add bin bags and toilet roll.	Guide
